CAT Tests
NEED HELP [#permalink] New post 07 Nov 2012, 07:56
Hi , All

I just took Gmat a few days back and got meager 600 ( Q45, V28). I was expecting something like 700 , given my practice CAT scores( all under timed condition)

GMAT PREP 1 19-Jul-12 680 ( Q 49 V 32)

POWER PREP 1 19-Aug-12 720 ( Q48 V 41)

MGMAT 2 27-Aug-12 700 ( Q 45 V 40)

POWERPREP 2 sep 12 730 ( Q45 V 44)

VERITAS 10-Sep-12 700 ( Q 51 V 40)

MGMAT 3 11-Sep-12 640 (Q 42 v 36)

MGMAT 4 30-Oct-12 680 (Q 47 V 37)

MGMAT 5 31-Oct-12 650 ( Q45 V 34)

GMAT PREP 01-Nov-12 730 (Q48V 41) IR (7)

REAL GMAT 600 ( Q45 V 28)

What I am surprised about is verbal score, Not even in one practice test I got below 32. I have been preparing for over 6 months for Gmat.

On the test day I was little nervous, and under tremendous pressure to do well.I think I was doing well in verbal till question 15-16 then suddenly one long passage came up that threw me out of sync with test and then I was never able to catch up , I think i guessed atleast 6-7 questions. Same thing happened in quant as well.
I plan to take Gmat in 2-3 months time and aim to get atleast 720.
Is it possible? I have gone through following books/resources till now

MGMAT SC book
OG 12 and 13
OG verbal and quant Supplement
Kaplan 800
gmat club forums--some
my error log/notes

Pl advice whether I should Buy different set of books or Join some course.
I am somehow getting the feeling that practice tests score mean nothing

First of all, yes it i possible for you to get a 700+ score. I think that your practice tests are a better measurement of your real potential than your actual GMAT. It really isn't all the uncommon for people to under perform on the GMAT due to intense pressure or stress.

Now you need to look at the results from your practice tests and the actual GMAT and examine where you need to improve. Obviously verbal should be a big priority. I might looking into getting a books specific to verbal or at least CR considering you already own a MGMAT book. There are also some good files to download from this website.

The only other advice I have to offer is to keep up with your error log and always time yourself when doing practice problems. Try to complete all problems in 2 minutes or less.
