Hi,

I just gave the GMAT yesterday and sadly my score dropped from 680 (Q49, V34) to 650 (Q50, V28).

My question is
What GMAT score does the ADCOM consider and during the interviews will they have access to both my scores?

I am considering Kellogg, Columbia, Duke and Cornell.

Thanks

Hiya--

Schools will take the highest score, so will focus on the 680 overall. They do receive the score reports so technically can access other scores as well; it varies among schools whether they really look much at that or not, but in many cases the report is just verification to back up the score you describe in your application.

Not sure if you are considering one more shot or not, but there's still a chance you could improve if you feel you have time for additional prep. Probably a fairly personal decision at this point-- you know whether you have time/energy etc for another go at it or not. Good luck!

Hi Jen

Thank you very much for replying to my post.

I plan to give the GMAT once more after I graduate from college i.e. in the time before my job starts.

Is it okay to have such a long gap of approximately 1 year?

Will my acquired knowledge be retained till then?

Also, I plan to apply to the Young Leaders Program (YLP) of ISB. Will they consider my highest score only or both my scores, and also in my additional essay will I have to justify my drop in performance on the GMAT?

Thanks a lot.

Hiya,

If you aren't applying yet and plan to re-take closer to actual deadline/timeframe, not a problem per se if there is a year in between; but in general if you've been prepping recently in some cases it is easier to just repeat sooner and get it done. That said if you are burnt out on it, a break is a good option too.

Have not heard of any schools not taking the highest score, so not worried about that or explaining a 'lower' score. Because of the adaptive nature of the exam, it theoretically isn't possible for you to test 'higher' than your ability level (i.e you can't really guess your way to a higher score), but of course anyone can have a 'bad' or off day, hence the highest score is reflective of what you are capable of and is what schools really care about. Hope that helps!!
