Need help in shortlisting Bschools [#permalink] New post 07 Apr 2009, 15:11
Hello,
Here's my profile in short:

GMAT:770 (M:51 V:45)

INFOSYS TECHNOLOGIES LTD. PUNE, INDIA & RICHMOND VA, USA
Software Engineer
Engaged in 4 different software project teams over a period of 3 years in India and 2.5 years on client site. Received appreciations and awards for contributions to the projects.

MUMBAI UNIVERSITY
K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering, MUMBAI, INDIA
Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology
•Graduated First Class
•Won prizes in singing competitions

MUMBAI UNIVERSITY,INDIA
Higher Secondary Certificate
•Topped the College with 91.33% overall score
•97% aggregate score in physics, chemistry and maths
•Full score in Physics (100%) in state exam
•Vocational course in Computer Science

Secondary School Certificate
•Topped the class in state level exam
•Prizes in singing competitions, debates, quizzes.
•Member of the school student council and class representative

My negatives are no community work and just nominal sports activities during secondary school. I am trying to shortlist 6 or 7 universties for Fall 2010. Could you please suggest which univs I have a good chance of getting into with scholarship. I am also contemplating an INSEAD MBA but I prefer a post-MBA career in the the US over a career in UK. Do INSEAD graduates have a good chance of landing a US-located job. Thanks in advance for your valuable inputs.

INSEADgrads do get jobs in the US, but given that you are not from the US, it would be easier for you to find a job in the US if you are in the US for your MBA.

Before I recommend programs, could you tell me what you want to do after you earn your MBA?

Best,
Linda

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't really nailed my career goals down but I would love to be a business owner (preferably an easy to understand business like an FMCG or food or the slightly more cryptic realty business.) To gain relevant business experience and the get an in-depth feel of decisions and choices that come along the way, I am thinking more than 5 years of solid consulting or GM experience should come handy. This should season me and help me become a better business owner when I am ready to startup something of my own.

I agree that you need to sharpen your post MBA goals. Please see "The MBA is a Means to an End.".

For now, however, look into Kellogg, Duke, Ross, Haas, Tuck, and Darden. Also a tip: for US graduate programs, your secondary school achievements are irrelevant.

Best,
Linda

Thanks...I agree and I have actively started working towards forming more concrete post-MBA goals ....Just one follow-up..among the suggested list of univs, which ones have historically offered a better grant/scholarship for a candidate of my profile?
