Need Help With A Few Things [#permalink] New post 31 Jan 2010, 11:46
Hi,

So basically, I'm wondering about a few things:

1. Although I'll be applying to top MAcc programs upon graduation, I eventually want to get into management consulting, either at MBB, the Big 4, or elite boutiques like Marakon, etc. I was wondering if there's any Macc programs that have a good history of placing MAcc students in consulting firms. I've heard good things about UT-Austin and UMich-Ross, but any others?

2. For the top MAccs, is it mostly all about numbers, or are ECs a big deal as well? Although I'm working on internships and participating in 2-3 activities that I enjoy, I'm not sure if I'll get "leadership" positions there, and how strong my ECs will be. Will this hurt me a lot for admissions, or am I basically set if I keep my numbers high?

Management Consulting career trek with MS Accounting degree?
I have never heard of this, and I am pretty sure that consulting firms don't recruit for MS accounting majors at UT-Austin or UMichigan.

Even at Big 4 accounting associated consulting firms, they don't hire MS accounting students for their management consulting practice. For IT consulting, I met few with just undergrad accounting degrees but they had additional knowledge in programming from elective classes he or she took. But for management consulting? :?: :?:

If you want a career in MC, you need to go get a MBA (for master's degree, that is)

Texas apparently has a couple that go do management consulting, pre-recession. However, the stats dont reveal if those few had certain circumstances that separated them (Ivy undergrad, previous MBB W/E?).
