Hi Linda,
Could you please provide any insights on what one should write why one should get the scholarships in 2 year MBA program especially for US schools(top 15/20 )...?

Much appreciate your feedback on this.

Debayan,

Look first and the school's financial aid information and see what criteria they provide.

Beyond that realize that merit aid is awarded when the school thinks that you are going to make it look good. That can be because you have stats, which are factored into rankings, or you have an above average record of achievement and leadership, which signals that you will be a high-powered contributor both as a student and as an alum and probably easy to place, or you have experience in a field in which the school wants to expand its reputation and network, or you are a member of an under-represented group. In other words, you have to show that you are more than "deserving"; you have to be extra-qualified.

Best,
Linda

Hey Linda,
Thanks a lot for your detail reply.

Most of the schools I guess, don't have any separate applications for the scholarships/financial aid.In that case, applicants need to show this 'extra' as highlighted in your reply above through their essays only I think. Is there any other way to showcase this...?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Really appreciate your feedback.

While the essays certainly would be important, they aren't the only means for portraying that higher level of qualifications that may earn a merit scholarship. Certainly an above average GMAT and GPA enhances your chances of a scholarship. Above average professional advancement as portrayed in your resume also helps. And of course comments by recommenders who know you well and can compare you to other MBA applicants can also increase your chances. Finally, you are probably going to interview. And if you again show that you are an unusually well-qualified applicant who will really add to the class and contribute both in class and as an alumnus, your interviews too will enhance your chances of acceptance.

It is a holistic process and everything needs to add up.

Best,
Linda
