Just to give a short summary:

My age: 30
Base location: India
Education: Bachelors in Production Engineering with 82.65 % (Ranked 1st in university)
Total work exp: 7 years
Profile: IT consultant/business analyst role working with one of the top consulting companies in the world. Majorly into banking projects specializing in credit risk and fraud management domain. US experience of 2+ years.
Extra: Associated with a NGO founded along with a group of friends from school.

Understand i belong to the league of highly represented groups at the GMAT...... :x

I am planning to take break from my job for some personal reasons and simultaneously start preparing for my GMAT.
Does my taking a break in my career impact my candidature at the top universities? What should be my target on the GMAT score to make it to the top B-schools? My favorite - INSEAD.

It would be nice to receive some good suggestions. Looking forward to hear from the experts here. Thank you.

ivn490,

Your taking a break from work will not impact your overall profile, provided it is well explained. Preparing for the GMAT is never a good enough reason, but family issues are.

As for the target GMAT score, nothing less than a 700 will do for INSEAD, but try to significantly exceed that, given that you are Indian/an engineer/working in IT.

Happy to help with further queries.
