Need some strategies with Reading Comprehension [#permalink] New post 10 Nov 2005, 21:42
I need some help with the Reading Comprehension. What are some of the strategies I can use to do this fast ? Do you read the entire passage, and then answer the question or is there something else I need to do, to get a better score in this area ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks,

How much prep have you already done? What materials are you using? The prep review guides like Princeton Review et al have strategies for every section of the test. I would definitely pick one up if you haven't already.

For RC passages, I read the question first, then skim the passage to see where the answer ought to be. I read that part of the passage carefully, then check the answer options. If the answer doesn't jump out at me, I look at the passage more closely. But I pretty much skim and don't read every word. Seems to work.

The general observation is that skimming the passage and reading is not effective. There is a sticky post in this forum which explains some very good strategies. Try a hand with that. :)

Please go thru the 'sticky' in Verbal forum. You'll find what you need there.
