Need your advice on how to claw my way out of purgatory [#permalink] New post 07 Mar 2006, 12:44
I've been placed on the waitlist at Duke and need your advice. In my application I briefly mentioned a project that I reviewed and I mentioned how it helped me further gain interest in obtaining my MBA. I did not not say much about my part in it because as I was writing my application I was still involved in it. Well the project that I reviewed was chosen out of all the 36 projects that were reviewed to be an exploratory project for next year. Furthermore one thing I regret not mentioning is that I was only one of two people in my level as a research associate who chose to be a part of this group that analyzed projects (the other members of this group were scientists most with PhD's).

Duke is cool with getting additional information relevant to your professional development. Would you say this is very relevant as I have already mentioned (albeit only briefly) that I was involved in this project in my application?

Yes, Duke is friendly toward additional info, and I think your story is relevant. I would send them a SHORT letter (just two paragraphs or so), doing two things: 1) reaffirming your strong interest in the program, and 2) giving them a very brief update on thisnew achievement. Re: the achievement, keep it brief, but also be sure to make sure that it doesn't come across as too abstract or esoteric. Help the adcomms see why this is a big deal.

Good luck!
