Hi Alex,

Below is my profile stats, would appreciate your inputs and opinions:

Age: 26
Sex: Female
Nationality : Indian
GMAT Score: 730 (Q49, V46); AWA 5.5
Work Experience: Big 4 Audit experience of more than 3 years with consistent growth within the firm. Worked in Middle east for 2 years & moved to NY in the past year. Currently serving as a senior auditor supervising teams of 6-7 people.
Schooling: UG in Accounting and Finance (3 years) from one of the top universities in India. Graduated top of my class.
Extra Curricular: Loads during college such as, served as treasurer of the Rotary club; VP of the Hostel union. Cultural Secretary for the Student Union. After college doing volunteer work in the community on and off but nothing very significant.
Career goals: Want to break into the PE world but heard its difficult especially for people with no prior PE experience, my only experience in the PE front is auditing these funds. :(
My target schools: Columbia; NY Stern; Chicago Booth; Wharton & Cornell.
Planning to apply for the 2010 admission cycle; preferably wish to join to submit my applications in R1 cycle

Would I be a good fit to my target schools? What would I need to build on to set me apart from my peers?
Can you suggest other schools where I would stand a good chance?

Thanks in advance Alex for your suggestions and views & hoping to hear from you soon.

Have a good day!

First, you're not getting a PE job without prior experience in investment banking, especially in "normal" or "down" economic cycles (the last few years have been an aberration with a frothy PE market; and even then, the majority of folks had prior IB or PE experience).

Having said that, if you're interested in a finance career, then the schools you mentioned are fine. I'd probably add Yale to the list as well and you have six schools. It's a decent range and you should be able to get into at least one of them IF you put together strong applications.

If you're applying this year, all you can do is focus on doing the best you can on the applications (don't mention PE as a goal or a few adcoms will likely gag and roll their eyes). Even with one year, you can't really fundamentally change who you are; real change takes years, not months.
