John A. Byrne created a dustup among business schools when he spearheaded a new M.B.A. ranking while working at BusinessWeek (now Bloomberg BusinessWeek) in the late 1980s. The ranking, which is now published every-other-year, shook the business school community, and put Mr. Byrne on the radar of business deans across the country.
Now, he's trying to raise his profile among the thousands of potential M.B.A. applicants with a new website–dubbed Poets & Quants–that aims to eventually give students in-depth looks at hundreds of degree programs, including what he calls the brutal truth about facilities, teaching methods and reputations.

Wow! I spent 20 min or so going through the website and it's a great resource, especially for anyone in the application phase. Check out some of the School A vs. School B articles. Very detailed with some great material for essays. I can attest that the stuff on Tuck is very accurate.
The fact that the guy was able to go to some of the schools and interview faculty and students then post it on his website attests to his connection to the MBA community.
