New here how to improve Quantitative [#permalink] New post 14 Nov 2013, 22:24
Hi Guys,

I am new here and started preparing for the GMAT about a week ago. The first thing I did was to give a Mock CAT from the GMAT Prep software and got a score of 370 with 18 in Quant (9 percentile) and 28 percentile in Verbal.

This clearly shows that I am weak in both Verbal and Quant. How do you guys suggest I move to pick up my score in Quant?. I have decided to focus first on Quant and see that I do really well in that.

Can you suggest some books/website/material to improve Quant in GMAT?. I am an Engineer but have been out of touch with studies for the past 6 years.

Looks like you have a lot to work on. But don't be overwhelmed by all the material. When it comes to studying - make sure you don't waste your time studying a lot of material that won't be tested on the GMAT - or that likely won't be that important on the GMAT.

I'd focus on algebra and fraction manipulation, sequences & number properties, triangle properties, and tricky word problems. But don't just learn the concepts - you need to learn variations of the same question to really know that you understand a math question. You can know the underlying concept and still get the question wrong - whether because of timing or because of some booby trap. So learn where the booby traps are so you can do math questions with an alert mind of what traps to avoid -- such as misreading the question, spending too much time on calculation, not testing the right values, etc.

Here are some extra practice questions for problem solving (on top of the core course material we offer) that you might be interested in checking out.
