Re: Not only are the cost of organic produce and the [#permalink]
The correct answer is B.

Really, the only answer choices here are B and E. Whenever you have Not only, you need to have but also as well. B just sounds better.

Going with B

using the idiom: not only..but also...

Not only are the cost of organic produce and the availability of organically grown products increasing each year, but the variety of such organically grown products is increasing as well.

(A) the variety of such organically grown products is increasing as well
(B) also the variety of such organically grown products is increasing as well
(C) the variety of such organically grown products is also increasing
(D) the increase in variety of such organically grown products also
(E) also the increase in variety of such organically grown products

I thind As well in B is redundant.... but no other choice is right.

so I will go with B.

Re: Not only are the cost of organic produce and the [#permalink]
C

(A) the variety of such organically grown products is increasing as well
-the idiom is not only X but (also) Y
(B) also the variety of such organically grown products is increasing as well
-out, to have also and as well is redundant. it's sufficient to have also
(C) the variety of such organically grown products is also increasing
-this looks fine

I guess D and E are wrong because it's the word variety that should be
emphasised. not only the cost and the availability are increasing but also the variety is increasing.

Both A and C looks ok but I'll go for C.

Re: Not only are the cost of organic produce and the [#permalink]
OA is C.

OE:

Spot the Error:
Notice idiomatic triggers. Not only is part of a common idiom.
Rule and Fix:
Memorize the common idioms. Not only should be followed by "but also" (though the two words do not have to be together)

POE:
A should be eliminated all other choices contain an also somewhere.

Chunk and Compare:
Compare B to C.
B uses also and as well which is redundant.

Compare C to D and E.

The difference is the comparison. C says not only are the cost increasing .... but the variety is increasing while both D and E have a different comparision not only are the costs increasing ...but also the increase

C is the only logical comparison. Reread your choice:
Choose C
