Notre Dame vs. TCU [#permalink] New post 12 Jan 2014, 03:37
Hello everybody,
So here's my situation. I'm a soon-to-be student (i.e. no real experience worth blinking at but two years of having a single employer at least) and I want to go into finance (investment banking) because I love trading stocks, options, and currencies when I'm not working. I have a wife (who won't be able to work because she can't speak English) and a son so financial aid is a big factor for me. I'm deciding between TCU and Notre Dame. TCU has given me full tuition and fees scholarship, while Notre Dame has given me $35,000 a year. I just need some advice because I really like the vibe TCU gives me (I'm from a "blue-collar" background and I don't know much about Notre Dame because I can't visit campus) but I'm catholic and I have heard that going to Notre Dame will help me in my job search as a lot of people have heard of Notre Dame before. The thing is that I'm going to have to take out a loan regardless of where I go, and I just want to know if it will be impossible to find a job in IB if I go to TCU or am I better off going to Notre Dame

Congratulations on making it to Notre Dame and TCU. The most important thing for you to take into consideration is your post-mba goal. With a strong interest in finance, you will have better opportunities at Notre Dame to get into a post-mba career in the field of finance. When considering the brand value, Notre Dame again wins. I suggest you do not let the full scholarship be a deciding factor. Apart from the full scholarship, everything else should push you towards Notre Dame. You can always take loans during the course of your MBA. It is a tough choice, but if I were you, I would go with Notre Dame. If you still have any doubts in mind, it is always helpful to talk to alumni of both these schools and then make a decision.

Good Luck!
