Nutritionist: In order to lose weight you should stop drinking sweetened beverages such as soda and fruit juices. Instead, drink only low-calorie and calorie-free beverages, such as water and tea, and consume more fruit instead. Even if the fruit consumed has calories equal to those in the omitted beverages, you will still consume fewer calories overall and lose weight.

Which of the following is the best explanation as to why the nutritionist’s plan will result in weight loss?

B) Fruits vary in their content of vitamins and minerals, so a variety of different fruits is preferable. ( does not explain y fruits will not add to the calories )

C) Some people consume nearly half their daily calories in the form of sugared beverages. ( does not explain y fruits will not add to the calories )

D)The human body evolved in a natural environment that did not include sugary beverages so consuming sugary beverages, even in large quantities, does not satisfy hunger like fruit does. ( explains y fruits will add less calories as compared to sugary beverages. Correct answer )

E)Both fruits and sugary beverages are primarily fat free because nearly all their calories come from carbohydrates. ( does not explain y fruits will not add to the calories )

The argument states that fruits and beverages such as soda have same amount of calorie but advocates for the consumption of Fruits.

And we are asked to find explanation?

Straight B and D are contenders. B can be eliminated as we do not in what percent other minerals or vitamins are present in the fruits. So If anyone mineral is present in excess can lead to some or the other disease.
Hence d is the best answer....It provides clear explanation why we should just choose fruits over sweetened beverages.
