Not sure if this is kosher or not for the board... but anyone want to meet up in Manhattan to hang-out and talk about this process and other stuff?

I don't know how this is usually done, but I guess I'll privately message people here and ask them to send me their cell #. Then I'll think of a time and place and I'll text everyone who gave me their # and post the meeting time/place on this board.

It will be great to actually talk in person.

Ok, I'll throw something out there. I work in Midtown, in the Fashion District. I live in Brooklyn. But not the cool part, so that may or may not help. I personally prefer weekend happy hours to weeknight happy hours but I can do either. I have no commitments that can't be rearranged, except I'm out of town the third weekend in March. What works for all of you?

Depending on when and where you schedule this, I'd be happy to swing by and see if I could be of any help. There's an old New York City meet-up thread buried somewhere, too.

I don't see any issue with keeping this public - I think thats how the other city meet and greets worked.

I might be down. I am on crutches, and probably will be for the next few weeks, so that kind of deters me from being social.

Solaris - it is a meet up for applicants. Wake up and admit that, in a few months time, you will be half way done and have virtually zero options for future graduate degrees.

Obviously, I am even less welcome!

Yeah I'm going to keep it public. But I'll also message people privately if they want to give me their cell # for text info. I used to be an event organizer, so I'm used to this stuff.

Hrm. Well, I'd certainly be glad to have both of you there. Would be cool if it were just a general NYC meet-up. You'd think we'd have way more people / interest than some of the other cities that have managed successful get-togethers...

I'd like to join in the fun too. My schedule is a bit of a mess, but if I can make it, I'll be there.

should we start throwing out neighborhoods for the meetup? i'm not usually out in the city, but i guess something near a subway stop (or even better for me, a PATH stop) would be best.

I think we should meet in Midtown (fair for those who live in Bronx or Brooklyn) at a big, cheesy place everyone can find like the Marriott Marquis bar or the Crowne Plaza hotel or W hotel bar (scented with pomegranates). If we want a place with more character, let me know and I'll throw out other suggestions.

Friday night sounds reasonable. Maybe early Fri evening.

Any interest in next Friday, 3/12? I'm in LA this Friday.

I'm out next Friday but we should meet up whenever we feel like it. We'll do one this Friday and maybe another one the week after that. God knows I need something to lift my spirits.
