NYU versus Chicago [#permalink]

I have been accepted to both NYU and to Chicago part time programs. I currently work in marketing and I plan to focus on Marketing and Corporate Finance in future. I would appreciate any suggestions helping me decide on one school.

if you are thinking of doing in finance, i will advise you to go for NYU

hi,
in that aspect i think Chicago is a better school to go as its faculty is considered to be world class and even in rankings it's always among top 7, rest you can check see the placement stats as well as the fee structure of both the universities.hope this helps

Hi Rajiv,
Congrats..
Having read and spoken to guys from NYU , I feel it is a better choice if you are interested in Finance...The reasons I feel are 1.The Part time program in NYU (Langone) is much more popular and well structured than Chicago..2.Since it is located in the Financial Hub ur access to leading players will be very high...
BTW, Can u let me know more abt. ur profile..Like experience, GMAT Score and so on as I am planning for NYU too..

Thanks for your input guys. I should have emphasized more clearly that I want to focus both on Marketing and Corporate Finance. I agree with you that Chicago and Stern programs are strong in their financial curriculum. I spoke to a few current students in both schools and students at Chicago seem to happier with their program than the students at Stern. I was also very impressed with the facilities and the professional environment at Gleacher center (Chicago).

GMAT 660 (87% overall, 82% verbal, 78% quant)
EDUCATION
BS and MS computer science.
WORK EXPERIENCE
3 years IT consulting
1 year product development and sales
1 year marketing analysis.

I agree with the other posters that NYU is a strong program and I have recommended it to many applicants. However, I think it is fair to say that Chicago is stronger in both of your primary interests. Note that BW2002 ranked it #1 in the US for finance and #9 for marketing.

My vote is for Chicago (given your future goals). However, other things you may want to consider are:
1. Your desired location after business school.
2. Cost of living in those areas and cost to attend.
However, you are in a win-win situation here. You've been admitted to two great schools so I don't think you can go wrong at all.

Note that the Chicago area has a lower COL than the New York metro area so cost of living considerations would probably be in favor of Chicago as well.

I certainly agree with Hjort. If COL is important to you, I'd go with Chicago. But I am a little biased, as I grew up in the U of C area. Hyde Park is a wonderful area with a lot of diversity.

I was scrolling the GMATCLUB site with a question in my mind, will my 660 (Q49, V31) get me into NYU' part-time program, and/or Chicago's weekend program. I am very pleased to find out that you got into the two schools, I am looking to apply, since your scores and profile are similar to mine. Can you please elaborate on your essay experience? How good do the essays have to be in order to get admission? Any other experience you can share with me?
