my question would be why do you need the CFA? pursuing a career in portfolio management?
if planning on IB, then from what I've read, CFA doesn't take you too far in getting a job offer.

the CFA is highly regarded as the highest designation in the investments industry. it takes a lot of time and dedication to be a holder. it's just the way it is. i know a lot of people think the CFA is a complete waste of time and that you could use the 300+ hours of studying networking and such, but i think sometimes the best way to climb that corporate ladder is by hitting the books. because quite frankly, anyone can network but it takes a select few that have the discipline and dedication to put in the time and effort. and ultimately, it shows knowledge and credibility.

i mean, look at me for an example. i'm going to an average university. not the best. so in order to help me move up, the CFA is the way to go. but that's just my 2 cents.

I'm planning on signing up for the CFA Level I for 2013. I may go for December of this year, as I heard the level 1 isn't usually extremely difficult for economics majors (which I was), as long as you put the time in. I'm dealing with a little beast called the GMAT first, however :-D .

i'm an italian student majoring in economics, i just took the gmat and got 710. i'm planning taking a mac in finance in 2013, but i'm thinking about preparing the cfa level 1 before starting it. i won't have any opportunity to gain an internship before my master, so i i think that the cfa will help me when i'll look for recruitment after the master. which books are you using? where can i find the detailed program for the first level exam?

well, on the CFA website they say that the committee will review all the questions and if any of them are "bad" or "had multiple answers" that they would throw them out. Let's just hope that the one you missed was one of them :)

Level 2 was tough this time..all of the people i know are not very confident... so as the paper was difficult for all..chances are that the MPS can be lower

hmm.. I think that the pass rates may go down... more and more people are enrolling for the CFA exams .. and the institute would want to control to preserve the value of the cfa designation

Hi guys would like to ask what type of jobs are you in? Is the CFA really needed in it?

I heard CFA is essential in investment and research. However, in the realm of investment banking, MBA is still the gold standard.

Hope to hear your take on this.

Regards,
Dave
