I beleive out of all the official guides available in market, OG 10th edition is best. It is very exhaustive in nature and covers almost all the concepts tested on GMAT.

Veritas just released a new article with analysis of the Verbal section of the OG 12. Some interesting findings about the RC passages (they are shorter in the current edition), SC (longer sentences), and CR (more advanced qustions) http://blog.veritasprep.com/2009/05/off ... -12th.html

I am currently using OG12 and the difficulty level is almost the same as OG11...actually I started with OG11 but then I found out in March end that OG12 was available so moved on to it......some of the questions have been re-phrased. Please feel free to ask me any specific questions if you have.

Hello This is my very first post and I must say, thanks for such a nice forum. Within the past couple of hours, I've already learned a lot!!
I read someone's post that the 10th edition is the best by far. I have an old 9th edition of the OG given by a good old friend. how is that compared to the 11th/12th edition? It says on my book's cover that there are 1000 Actual GMAT questions!
thanks Sam

thanks Sam Welcome to GMATClub Emperorblack, I don't think anyone has that kind of info since OG 9 was replaced by OG 10 in 2002/2003 - that's a long time ago! I would say most questions have been replaced compared to the OG 12, so you should definitely get a copy of OG12. I would also suspect that the questions in that edition would be easier than OG 12.

Thanks for the welcome! yeah, its a very old book. The person who took the tests back in 2000 scored 733 and I've kept the books since then hoping someday I will take the GMAT and match her score. Looks like I've waited too long.

Oops - I think I should clarify - you did not wait too long. The book is not bad in any way - it is actually GOOD that questions in OG 12 and OG 9 do not overlap much - you will get more practice questions. The only downside is that you will see questions on the easier side in OG 9.

Thanks for all of the info... I have been considering buying the 12th edition even though I already have OG 11th ed. Right now I am just going to focus on learning the topics instead of just trying to do more questions.

For OG12, is there a breakdown of the questions by difficulty levels, or types of problems? Thanks!

It will work - there is a conversion table on MGMAT's website. Also, you may want to check this thread out: gmat-club-guide-to-the-gmat-official-guide-12th-ed-85956.html

Hi,
I have just started my GMAT preparation. Can anyone please help me in deciding which OG version should I refer to.Should I buy 10th , 11th and 12th ( all three)???.
I want to focus most of my time on verbal . Please suggest the best material for the same.
Thanks

vagarwal The OG 12 is the latest one. The OG 11 is still for sale. I'd say it does not matter which one you get unless you are planning to work with the MGMAT Guides (they are tied to specific editions and it is best to use the one they are tied to though conversion tables are available). There is a strong overlap between OG 11 and OG 12 (about 70%) OG 10 is quite different from the OG 12/ OG 11 but has a heavy overlap with GMAT Prep and PowerPrep so would not recommend that you do it before taking those tests. Bottom line - just get OG 12
