This is a post on my interview Debrief for the IIM Indore EPGP one-year MBA. Generally, with low GMAT score like mine (600/800) you don’t receive the interview call from any of the IIM’s, but since the criteria for selection in IIM Indore EPGP is 50% weightage for GMAT and 50% weightage for interview, I believe I got the interview call.
Interview was conducted in Monarch Luxur Hotel in Shivaji Nagar in Bangalore on 28th Dec’19. Interview was supposed to start at 8:30am but started at 9:00am. There were 12 candidates for the morning session. They called ppl based on alphabetical order and mine was the first.
The panel consisted of 2 people. One young guy (P1) and one middle aged person (P2). Before you are called they review your application and be prepared to ask the questions based on your application content.
Me: Good Morning.
P1: Please have your seat.
P2: Please give the documents.
Me: handed over the file of photocopies.
P1: Briefly tell me about yourself
Me: Told my educational background, family background, work experience.
P1: So you are work experience is based on your educational background?
Me: Yes (I believe this was asked because most ppl they faced are of different educational background and work exp)
P1: Tell me about current Job profile
Me: I explained my roles and responsibilities.
P1: What are the tests conducted on Concrete? (Questions based on my work experience; I am a Civil Engineer btw)
Me: Explained about in-situ tests conducted – Compressive strength and Slump test
P2: You have mentioned about the achievements in your application, what is the learning from it?
Me: Working with limited resources. (Based on what I mentioned in application)
P2: What is the -ve effects of your achievement
Me: Quality of work is affected
P2: What is your key take away by studying at SASTRA University.
Me: Discipline. And explained further on it.
P1: Why are cement manufacturers boast about the compressive strength of the cement? What is it and what is its significance?

P2: What do you know about Dada Saheb Phalke Award? In which industry this is awarded?
Me: Movie Industry.
P2: Who is the latest recipient of this award?
Me: No Idea
P2: Hints that the person was not well when the award was announced and hence did not collect in person
Me: Amitabh Bachchan – answered correctly though guessed. (P2 looked quite happy).
P1: What are the macro economic factors that affect construction industry?
Me: I was good at this. Gave a long answer of 10mins starting from supply demand, GST, RERA, Subvention, IL & FS scam, DHFL scam, Amrapali scam etc
P2: What do you know about the recent Kashmir Issue that’s on the news?
Me: After a long pause, “I have no idea” – ( So dumb of me ). Though gave basic info that Jammu and Kashmir was partitioned and converted into union territories by revoking article 370.
P1: Do you have any questions for us?
Me: Asked regarding the timelines of selection outcome.
P2: We will give you enough time to relieve of your current employer obligations after the result. Programme starts in April 2019.
P1: You may leave (P2 Handed back all my documents)
The whole interview took about 20-25minutes. There are no specific questions that you can expect. Be good at explaining the work that you do. Have deep high-level insights of the industry that you work in. And last but not the least, be aware of the current affairs and general knowledge. You should be able to communicate well; all the above.
Hope this helps!
