Hi Guys,

I need some clarification regarding the following sc ques :

Q-1) The rising of costs of data processing operations at many financial institutions has created a growing opportunity for independant companies to provide these services more efficiently and at lower cost.

(A) The rising of costs
(B) Rising costs
(C) The rising cost
(D) Because the rising cost
(E) Because of rising cost

Now I know that OA is c. But the reason I chose C was the rising cost is plural and it goes with the plural phase data processing operations. But the OG gives opposite explanation that is : Idiom + goes with singular phrase has created. If there was an options The rising costs. then what would we choose?

How do I figure that out ?

"The rising cost" is singular. You can tell it's singular because of the singular main verb "has created".

The rising cost of data processing operations at many financial institutions

"of data processing operations" is a prepositional phrase. The main subject can never be in a prepositional phrase.

IMO it is E - It is concise. the statements needs a conjunction, and "rising cost" needs to be singular.

(A) The rising of costs
(B) Rising costs
(C) The rising cost
(D) Because the rising cost
(E) Because of rising cost

urgh...got it.
It is "C"....conjunction must be used when two clauses are in context.

I stand corrected.
