On-campus Information Sessions... [#permalink] New post 11 Sep 2006, 20:03
Hi There,

I had a quick question about some upcoming information sessions @ Cornell and Tuck. What is the proper attire for information sessions...suit & tie, blazer, etc?

Do schools really take note of applicants who take the time out of their schedule to attend on-campus sessions?

Thanks!

I've seen people show up in everything from ragged jeans and a t-shirt to suit and tie. I think a decent pair of pants and a button down shirt are sufficient to "look good".

Schools may or may not take notice - I personally think they do - but moreover, the real reasons you want to go are:

(1) You get to hear the adcom talk about what they are looking for. For example, at Kellogg, they harped on well rounded.
(2) You get to find out about a few initiatives you may not have heard about that you might find really interesting and can weave into your essays.
(3) You can weave the fact that you attended into your essay. It shows you actually want to go to the school - you aren't just applying for the sake of applying.

In general, I'd say wear what you would wear to work on a regular day, not what you'd wear to an interview.
