Monday: 4 hours to do 5/9 of the work

\(\frac{1}{m}(4)=\frac{5}{9}\)
\(\frac{1}{m}=\frac{5}{36}\)

How many hours to finish the remaining 1-\(\frac{5}{9}=\frac{4}{9}\)

\(\frac{5}{36}(t)=\frac{4}{9}==>t=\frac{16}{5}=3\frac{1}{5}hours=3hrs12min\)

8:10 + 3hrs12min = 11:22

Given that 5 parts of the work was done in 4 hours and 4 parts remain to be done. Now, since 5 parts need 4 hours, then 4 parts will need 4/5*4 = 16/5 hours = 3 hours and 12 minutes. Therefore, if the work on Tuesday started at 8:10 am, then it would be finished at 8:10 am + 3 hours and 12 minutes = 11:22 am.

Answer: B.

Hope it's clear.

We are told that 5/9 of the work was done on Monday, so 5 parts out of 9 was done and 4 parts are left to be done.

What I'm thinking about is why is it 4/5*4 instead of 4/9*5? Clearly, I'm wrong. But I can't seem to grasp this particular part. Is it because we have to find how much 4 parts is over 5 parts in terms of time?

5 parts need 4 hour, so 1 part need 4/5 hours, which means that 4 parts need 4*(4/5) hours.

Hi All,

If you're ever confused by "fractional data" that includes measurements (in this case, "hours"), you might be able to avoid doing "fractional math" by converting units. Here's how:

We're told that it takes 4 hours to complete 5/9 of a job.

4 hours = 4(60) = 240 minutes to complete 5/9 of a job

Since 240 = (5/9) of the job
240/5 = 1/9 of the job
48 minutes = 1/9 of the job

From here, figuring out how long it will take to finish the final 4/9 of the job won't be too tough..

48(4) = 192 minutes = 4/9 of the job

192 minutes = 3 hours 12 minutes

It's important to note that we're starting from 8:10 am, so an additional 3 hours 12 minutes takes us to 11:22am

Final Answer:

On Monday, took 240 minutes to complete 5/9 album

Time required to complete remaining album \(= (1 - \frac{5}{9}) * 240 * \frac{9}{5} = 192 minutes\)

192 minutes = 3 hours 12 minutes

Counting from 8:10AM = 11:10AM + 12 minutes = 11:22 Minutes

Answer = A
