For statement 2 following cases are possible:
A--(5)--C-------(20)-----------B

So this statement is not sufficient.

Only way statement 1 works is above. Statement 1 is sufficient.

Statement 2 is a trap. If you do statement 1 first, you may be fooled into thinking, because A is to the left of point B that it is the same as above. However, it could also be:

I tht it was D till i read your explanation of why statement 2 is not sufficient..

I hadnt considered the possibility with C all the way to the left..

AC= 5, BC = 20

Stmt 1: AB = 25; From the properties of number line, C must be between A and B (does not matter on which side in the line). Sufficient

Stmt 2: A lies to the left of B; C could be between A and B or it could be left to A making AC=5, AB = 15 and BC = 20. Insufficient.

Answer A.

there are 4 ways this number line can be drawn

A-------5-------C-------------20--------------B

B----------------15----------------A-------5-------C

B---------------------20-----------------------C-----5-----A

C-----5-----A------------------15------------------B


from (1) only the 3rd line fulfils the criteria of AB = 25 and C is in between A and B. SUFFICIENT

(2) A is to the left of B in lines 1 and 4, we can't decide if C is in between A and B. INSUFFICIENT

hence A is the answer
