On the picture below:
ABCD is a rectangle.
AE=ED
AF=FB
Find ratio of area of AEF to area of ABCD.

A) 1/6
B) 1/4
C) 1/7
D) 2/15
E) 3/24

I am getting the answer as 1/8 but I guess it is wrong as its not in the answer choices.
The question is quite straightforward
Let the sides of the rectangle be
AD = x
AB = y

Now A[rectangle] = xy
The area of triangle AEF will be 1/2*(x/2)*(y/2) = xy/8

therefore, the ratio of the area or AEF to ABCD = 1/8

Is there something wrong in the question stem, as it looks too simple to be wrong...or maybe I'm having one of my *brain-fart* moments

Come on you guys, it is a RATIO problem. The fraction is 1/8, but the ratio is 1:7.

What's the OA?

I'm going with E...

It's tempting to put 1/7, but this question doesn't ask that. Think about those questions that ask for ratio of men to women... let's say its 3/7, therefore the total # of men and women will be a multiple of 10. This isn't what this question is asking. It's asking for part:whole, not part:part, as the men to women question does.
