(A) compared to those that can b detected
(B) compared to those they can detect
(C) than that can be detected
(D) than those that can be detected
(E) than those detecting

It is easy to boil to 2 answer choices, B and D. Which one is more preferred? "compared to vs than"
Please let me know your views.

I think D here.

Fainter already implies a comparison so the use of compared is redundant.

B also has a misused pronoun.
