One box has 9 bolts, 3 white and 6 red; and another box has 12 nuts, 5 white and 7 read. If I pick one bolt and a net from the respective boxes,
what is the probability of picking the same color bolt and nut?

What kind of probability question is this?

P = WB * WN + RB * RN

Picking Any bolt is independent of picking any nut
so p = 3/9 * 5/12 + 6/9 * 7/12 = 57/(12*9) = 19/36
