E) One seventh of manufacturing jobs in the US are dependent


The answer is (A) but could anyone explain me why (E) is wrong?

Alright, let me try here.

One in seven - original sentence.

meaning: 1job out of 7 jobs - total 7 jobs
One seventh is a ratio ; 1/7

This does not necessary mean there are 7 jobs as said in the sentence.

this could mean anything from:
1/7 - 7 jobs
2/14=1/7 - 2 jobs out of 14 jobs
3/21=1/7 - 3 jobs out of 21 jobs
4/28=1/7 etc...

hope this helps.
and they all are one seventh with different number of jobs.
