I go for A.

Here's my explanation.

First lets choose between 'One of the most fundamental techniques of' and 'one of the fundamental techniques of surviving'.

'one of the fundamental techniques of surviving' can be better written as 'One fundamental technique of surviving'
So i cancel B,C,E.

(A) most fundamental techniques of surviving in the harsh environs of a desert is to drink as much water as you can.
(D) most fundamental techniques which can be employed to survive in the harsh environs of a desert is to drink as much water as is possible.
D is wordy compared to A

So i go with A.

(A) most fundamental techniques of surviving in the harsh environs of a desert is to drink as much water as you can. ==> Contender
(B) fundamental techniques of surviving the harsh environs of a desert is drinking as much water as possible. ==> "is drinking" is incorrect.
(C) fundamental techniques of surviving in the harsh environs of a desert is to drink as much water as you can. ==> Contender
(D) most fundamental techniques which can be employed to survive in the harsh environs of a desert is to drink as much water as is possible. ==> "which can be employed" is wordy
(E) fundamental techniques of survival in the harsh environs of a desert is the drinking of as much water as one can. ==> "the drinking of" is incorrect.

The difference between A and C is the use of the word "most". I tried doing the following:
"fundamental" "more fundamental" "most fundamental" and this sounds ok.

Hence my pick is A.

I choose C.
It's less wordy.

GMAT doesn't like unnnecesary words.

Pretty Simple B...most fundamental is wrong & D is long winded E has the the phrase "Drinking of as much water" which is again wrong

The OE:
Explanation
Certain adjectives like fundamental, perfect, favorite, unique, ideal etc. do not have a comparative (more) or a superlative (most) degree.
Because of this, options A and D are ruled out.

Then comes the question of parallelism in the structure of the sentence.
'Surviving' in the continuous form, has to be followed by 'drinking', also in the continuous form.
Option B makes this essential correction.

Hence (B) is the correct answer.

I'll go with C.

But after reading the explanation about //sm. I see why B is correct.

I went for A. But looking at Hemanth's comment, I feel it should be B.
But dont you think "more/most fundemental" is rite usage than Fundementaler, fundementalest ;)?
