only one tip - very important [#permalink] New post 28 Jun 2008, 11:50
Hi friends,
first of all apologies for not writing a debrief on my gmat. I was highly dejected and last few days have been emotionally tough.
my score: 700 (Q49, V36) AWA 6

I dont think i have too much to write about this not so good score. Not that i got a bad score, but i was dissappointed because i aimed for a much better score. I have two important experiences to share on this forum:

1. Please please ensure that you get your body clock set according to the test day. I got killed here. I didnt get a chance to take few days off from work prior to gmat. So, i had to sit up late at night. Hence my schedule got set to 12 am - 8 am and then used to wake up at 3 pm in the afternoon. I could afford to reach office late, so this timing suited me. However, I had to wake up at 12 noon on the test day. I tried going to bed at 2 at night, but my body could not adjust to this sudden change in timing and as a result i cd not sleep the entire night. I got some sleep in my usual time (after 8 in the morning) but that was simply not enough. I somehow gathered the courage and went for the exam. AWA went fine (as the score reflects). I finished each essay with 4 minutes to spare. But, in the Q section I started feeling stress and to worsen the situation - I started feeling sleepy by the time i reached verbal. I ffell slightly short of time in qant and got over with verbal 5 minutes before time (obviously i didnt do well in verbal).
I really felt like killing myself on the stupid mistake i committed after preparing well for the exam. This is the least i cd expect (no boasting guys, but i really worked hard and had better expectations). Please ensure that you get your sleeping and waking up cycle right well before your test day.

2. second lesson i learnt is that NEVER NEVER think about a question once you have confirmed the answer. I know it is easier said than done, but this mistake ran me out of time in quant. In one question (it was in first ten) I was in some doubt, but i confirmed the ans as I had already spent more than 3 minutes in that question. While I was readong the nesxt question, the doubt in previous question was still hanging in my mind and soon enough i realized that i had faltered in previous question. This made me nervous, which affected my performance in the rest of the section. Once you confirm an ans, that question becomes history. Please try not to hang on to a question - even if u have guessed it - once you move ahead in the test.

Hope this helps a bit.
I dont think i have time to reappear for gmat. Lets see for now, will catch you all in applications section. All the best to all those who are yet to appear for gmat.

Awesome result.

Definitely agree on the body clock -- I tell people that all the time, make sure you're awake when you write it! Not that I'm one to talk :)

And 700? Man that's an awesome score.

You have nothing to complain about. You should be happy with that, and if you need to score higher, then study some more.

You're in the top 18k out of 250k man. 232,000 people didn't score as high as you did. Just remember that.
