E for me,

fewer than those would be great but is not part of the choice.
I am eagerly waiting for native speakers point of view...

Hi Bhai ,

Thanks for your answer

Hope my "native" allusion did not offense anybody here, just to underline how awkward my SC is...

Did you chose B for tense coherence reason ?

E is my pick.

Use of – in A and B is incomplete. Thus both incorrect.
In B a – in place of , in front of …the man eater would have made the usage of – correct to indicate abrupt flow of thought. However, this still will not be considered formal English.

B.

Only seven have been... fewer than have been... - the parallelism is better preserved here. Nothing wrong with the '-' by the way.

it would have been easy if the right answer choice reads..

'Only seven people this century have been killed by the Great White Shark, the man-eater of the movies -- fewer than the number killed by bee stings'

However with what we have, B or E can be the shortlist that rightly has 'fewer than'.

I will go with E.

Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies, fewer than the ones killed by bee stings.

With E, the addl. info about the white shark (seen in brown) can be safely removed, making the sentence still logical and neat.

B sounds a little awkward.

I would go with B...ones seems to be very VAGUE. one refers to what seven people?
