Optional Essay at TMP (Kellogg part time) [#permalink]

Hi. I am applying to the TMP (Part-time MBA) program at Kellogg. I am not sure what to write in the optional essay. I do have a failing grade during the first semester in one course during my graduate studies. I was thinking of pointing that out in the essay since I didn't want them to find out about this in the transcipt without an explaination from my side.
Any tips on writing about dark areas of your application in the optional essay?

This is a good use of the optional essay. For this situation, the keys are two 1) convincingly explain what happened without sounding like you're making excuses, and 2) show how you have the intelect and discipline to do better in business school. One way to do the latter is to show how your gardes improved after your failing mark (if this is the case). Also, keep it direct and relatively brief.
