I need to write an option essay to address why my recommender is not my current supervisor as well as why my grade dipped in certain semesters.

montauk did not have any tip on how to structure optional essays...anybody has any tips on the flow? Obviously, i'm not wrting a narrative as i did for other essays....

was in the same posn.

didnt use any "structure" as such. But tried to put a positive spin on things . For example instead of telling them first abt why my current supervisor is not recommending me..........I told them why my earlier boss was more qualified to provide me with a reco.

Similarly in the grades explanantion......I concentrated more on telling them what happened cause of me flunking one paper (as in how I learnt my lesson an never smoked weed before a final exam again :) as opposed to telling them why I failed that paper in the first place (generally this is too whiny)

you actually wrote 'weed' in the optional essay?

:)

I plan on using buletin points, but my explanations deal with some technical stuff (why I did not take the TOEFL for example). And I just do not know how to approact writing about why I did not take the TOEFL in an essay :) And the reason I did not take the TOEFL is because I have an undergrad from the US :)
