Options

A lot of it will come down to your GMAT.

As a military officer, b-school adcoms will cut you some slack on the GMAT, but not by much (i.e. maybe 20-30 points slack, so that for a top 16 school most will need at least a 700+ for the GMAT not to be a concern, whereas for military officers you could probably get away with a 680 without it being a concern).

In any case, the MBA will give you a broader array of career options than the other specialized degree programs. What I suggest is to focus solely on the GMAT prep for the next month, and shoot for high 600s and ideally 700+ if you can. Once you do that, it'll then come down to the rest of your profile, how well you execute your applications, and so forth. You'll find that military vets from all branches are pretty well represented at the top 16 schools (and especially at HBS, Wharton, Darden, and Duke in particular). Good luck

I agree with all the comments of the posters above. What have you done in the military? What experience did you gain? What rank did you reach? What leadership experience do you have?

An MBA will give you the most flexibility. If your future goals are uncertain this may be the best degree for you. Also, as a black applicant you come from an underrepresented minority group which should aid in your admissions chances.

I would recommend you visit:

1. The Consortium at https://www.cgsm.org/. You will have the advantage of being able to apply to many schools with one application (although some schools might ask for supplemental material).
2. National Black MBA Association at https://www.nbmbaa.org/.
3. The diversity pages at each of your target schools as some programs have specific admissions committee members in charge of recruiting diverse classes.
