Original sentence:

People that are well-informed know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine which bears its name.

OA:

Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine that bears its name.

In my opinion the OA is flawed: the its is sitting closer to the noun export than to region and thus is ambiguous. Of course the sentence is perfectly clear, however it is the grammar workout that is annoying by nature, not me.

Please check if this option is correct:

Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine bearing the region's name.

Hi HumptyDumpty,

Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine that bears its name.

Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine bearing the region's name.

Both of the sentences are grammatically correct and in the first sentence "its" correctly refer to "Bordeaux".

In this sentence there are two possessive pronouns in the sentence - "whose" and "its"

In a sentence the repeated pronouns are presumed to refer to the same antecedent, which is "Bordeaux" in the above sentence. You will find this rule in the same Manhattan GMAT SC under Advanced Pronouns -> Nuances of Pronoun Reference -> Repeats

But, if both of these are in the answer choices then the second sentence will be better because it is more concise.

I Hope this clears your doubt,

Vercules

Thank you, kudos!

PS.
The second version is mine, it's not from the book.
