At first glance I thought A. But this sentence suggests this guy is dead. So A is out. If he were currently living, A could be a possible choice.
But since he's dead, answer choice E.

Between C and E, I would go with E. I think there is no need to make it a perfect tense. Simple past would do it.

I don't like none of the options E stands out but a simple past suffices here Would generally talk about the possibilities or possible occurrences
