Does anybody know how important is school visits in overall admission process? I am living in US and I cannot visit these schools unless I am sure that I am getting an admit.

When i Visited SBS earlier this year, i met a couple of American's visiting for the first time. They were both being interviewed. So you do not need to visit before being interviewed. I on the other hand live in London, so its inexcusible for me. FYI, My visit just happened to be on an on-campus interview day.

Hi, Buffdaddy,

Could you provide me with those last year's topics? Because it seems that the schools haven't released their new application packages yet...

Thanks in advance!

Hi GreenOak,

the topics from last year are:

Essay 1: Explain why you chose your current job. How do you hope to see your career developing over the next five years? How will an MBA assist you in the development of these ambitions? (1000 word maximum)

Essay 2: Which recent development, world event or book has most influenced your thinking and why? (2000 word maximum)

(that second one is a HARD question for me)

Thanks, Buffdaddy!

Yes, the second question seems a bit unorthodox.
(The first book that came into my mind was Harry Potter… lol…)

I did not find the essays question. Did somebody find the essays for 2009 application?

JBS essay questions come out some time in August.

SBS essay questions haven't changed from last years. (i emailed them to confirm)

goodluck!

Still no essay questions for both Oxford and Cambridge :(

Does anyone have last year's Cambridge questions?

EDIT:

Judge Cambridge Essay 1. Tell us about a work project or task where you did not perform well. What did you learn about yourself?

Judge Cambridge Essay 2. How would you like to be remembered?

Judge Cambridge Essay 3. Why is the Cambridge MBA right for you?

Judge Cambridge Career Objectives Question: What is your immediate post MBA career objective? What will you be doing 10 years after graduation? What skills/experience do you already have that will help achieve your aims? How will the Cambridge MBA help you? (Please do not exceed 400 words in total.)

Still no JBS questions,

however Oxford Adcom has confirmed via email to me that their questions are unchanged (as they have been for at least 4 years now). Please see my earlier post.

Well, September is in two days already, and still no questions from JBS. And they have only 1 month for R1 :?
Does anybody know, was the situation the same last year? Perhaps, they just wouldn't like to have too many apps in R1?

Last year i believe JBS deadline was the last day of October (might have even been the first week of November). I don't know when the essays came out last year, but I totally agree that this is not very good.

I have started to write my essays based on last year's questions, I hope they won't change much.

Re: Oxbridge 2009 applicants [#permalink]
At last!

Cambridge application is out. It became lengthier compared with the previous year’s one.

Essays questions (up to 400 words per each):

1. Describe yourself. What are your strengths and how do you utilise them? What attributes do you like improve upon and why?
2. Describe your leadership style. Tell us about a project, task or experience where you had to motivate and direct individuals or a team. Were you successful, and if so, why? If not, what did you learn about yourself?
3. Why is the Cambridge MBA the right programme for you? Which aspects will contribute the most to your learning experience? What unique experience and/or personal attributes will you contribute to the learning experience of your classmates?

Also, there are Personal Statement paragraph and several mini-essays in the application itself: three of these are in the career objectives section (career progression/short term goals/long term goals) and one is for the description of the most significant extracurricular activity.

Looks like a lot of writing… But at least we can begin now. :)

Good luck to all fellow applicants!

Where else are you applying? They came out a ridiculous 3.5 weeks before the R1 deadline? Are you applying in R1? I have my doubts now whether to apply to R1.

Re: Oxbridge 2009 applicants [#permalink]
I was planning to apply to Oxford/Cambridge in R1, and to some other UK programmes in R2 (btw, LBS is not in the list). But now I'm not sure. I was hoping that they will move the deadlines for R1 in Cambridge since the app was released late, but this didn't happen :( Probably, they indeed decided to make R1 very short so that only those who _really_ want to get there will apply. Or they are afraid that the apps volume will be very high. I don't know.

I will do my best to still apply in R1. Given the current trends, I'd say that R2 may be very competitive for Oxbridge. But I believe you also have LBS in R1, so I understand why it would be reasonable to postpone/drop JBS - unless it's your dream school.

Re: Oxbridge 2009 applicants [#permalink]
As someone who likes conspiracy theories, I feel this late release of essay questions could be a deliberate ploy by JBS to improve its yield. Think about it, only those who really really want to go to JBS are going to spend a mere 3.5 weeks getting a real kick ass application for JBS. Those with other schools to worry about may not have enough time to get it right for R1.

This situation may also be a blessing in disguise for some. Now if you were to focus on JBS and get a set of really really good essays out, then you are at a huge advantage over others who haven't had the same time to focus on JBS in R1. Many would say "Ahh stuff it R2 for JBS." And thus the path to Cambridge becomes that much easier if you get a great app in R1.

Note: I'm not a JBS applicant.
