Hi,
is anybody applying to Oxford?
I have a doubt betwee round 4 for 2008 or round 1 for 2009.
I would prefer starting in 2008, but I am afraid that round 4 is too much competitive.
I hve written to the school and they have assured me that the chances of acceptance are exactly the same, but.... would you believe them?

Hi Christian,

I spoke to an Oxford prof way back in December at an event. He said they proportionally allocate seats in rounds based on previous years applications for each round. I don't know how true this is since it didn't come from the AdCom. I am considering the same thing, but I have pretty much decided 2009 intake round1 will be better chances.

The only good thing about oxford round 4 is that Oxford doesn't have waitlists so u won't be competing against any WL candidates. The bad thing is the Oxford name is BIG in the USA and it attracts lots of applications from USA. So in round 4 potentially you could be competing with really great candidates that got dinged from HSW and other elite US schools.

cheers,
buff

I see that we got the same "official answer"! and me too did not received by admission staff but by marketing staff.
In contrast to you I have almost decided to apply in round 4, since I will apply at the same time at tw other schools, INSEAD and IE, and I am not yet decided between IE and SAID (if I get dinged from INSEAD).
In any case I am wondering that probably if you get dinged because there are not enough placed, you would be encoroued to repply to next year (I would make a phone interview in that case)
