Do you felt there was a difference between GMATPrep and MGMAT practice tests? Or why do you think your scores were so different?

There're was a huge difference between the official CAT (PowerPrep and GMATPrep) vs MGMAT CAT, it's like running 2 different races with differing difficulty, the strategy for running well in one might not work so well in the other. After doing 3 official CATs in a row, my timing and pace was in tune with the style and difficulty level of the official GMAT. As I had a lot of extra time left over with the initial tests, I consciously work the extra time back into the next test mostly to double check questions so as to use the time provided optimally. By the time I wrote the GMATPrep 1, my timing was so fine tuned that I was able to double check the majority of the questions and finish checking the last question on both sections with just a couple of seconds left to spare. I then used the same pacing on the MGMAT and the result was disastrous. I had to guess the last 15 questions in the quant section because I had ran out of time. The CATs were different enough that the pace honed on one does not work on the other.

Of course this is just base on my experience, others might have a different tale to tell, however I think it's still best to save the official GMATPrep last and use them to fine tune timing and pacing for the real GMAT instead of the MGMAT one.

Hello there,

How impressive! Are you someone who already had a natural affinity with mathematics? I was not, so I am still studying!

Question for you - it appears that your MGMAT scores are lower than the other tests. Is this common with MGMAT tests? I noticed that my timing is REALLY off with MGMAT, and these tests are all I have used to study. I am going to be taking my GMAT Prep tests in about a week, to assess where I am at.

Any suggestions on other tests to take?

Thanks  ,

I have no idea if this is common or not, I only have my own practice score to go on, but from what I can tell, their question length and/or algorithm is a bit different from the real GMAT. Keep in mind that I did 2 of the MGMAT CATs at the beginning of my studying period so naturally the scores were lower than the later tests. As for which other tests to take ... I can't really help you since I haven't tried any thing else.

Great score! Congratulation!

My GMAT is on 28th November and I am at 680 on MGMAT. This post helped to fight some self doubts I had been having lately. Only thing is that I don't have luxury of 8 full days but I have 6 full days if I study my ass off on thanksgiving.

My MGMAT scores were incredibly close to my test day score (within 20 points or so), so it must depend on the person.

Hi Deadlycat,

Congrats for the brilliant score!!!

I am planning to give GMAT in 2012 and have heard that a new section called Integrated reasoning is been added...could you please advice some good tests or books for the same as it is not in OG 12 nor in Barron's. Would also like to know which books are actually required to kick off the GMAT studies at home and with self preparation only....Awaiting your reply... :)

To be honest, I haven't kept up with the latest development from GMAC. This is the first time that I've heard of the new addition. If I were in your position, I would take the GMAT before they put in the new section. Less things to worry about will lessen the study time and reduce stress.
