Hi Guys,
I am an R1 applicant in California anxiously waiting for an interview call. I have been fortunate
enough to get into a M7 school in R1. However due to various reasons Haas and Sloan are my
top choices.
My question is this: Would it be prudent to let Haas AdCom know that I have an admit in hand?
The idea here is to signal to Haas AdCom that I am a good candidate (due to M7 admit) and
deserve an interview. However I have never heard of this being done. Could it backfire?
A buddy of mine warns me against it, arguing that Haas might ding me if they know that
I have an admit from another top school for yield related reasons. BTW the school that I have
got into is not HSW.
Your advice is appreciated.
I suggest against doing so for two reasons:
1) A main reason why schools put people on waitlist is because they are not sure who will attend and who will not. In an ideal non-quantum non-relativity world, they would admit only those who they think WILL ATTEND their program. Unfortunately there is no way to find out, so they waitlist people. Now in such a situation where 'there is NO way to find that out', you are actually GOING and TELLING them yourself - you are guiding them toward believing that you MIGHT not attend Haas
2) This is my opinion and I might be wrong - but they might take this as a 'threat' or 'warning' so to speak. I hope this does not sound like - 'Hey fella, I have an admit already, that too from M7, so bring it on BRO' lol
well jokes apart, my 0.02$ - avoid it..just wait till they call you...anyway you have nothing to lose..
