Good luck to both of you!

@Unforseen

I have heard that MGMAT verbal tends to be slightly easier (as far as scoring on the CAT tests). I did many verbal problems with MGMAT and found them to mostly be representative of test day. Kaplan on the other hand seemed to be harder than the real test. I'm a native English speaker, and I found the verbal to seem WAY too easy on test day. But it turns out I was just doing well and got a 90% in verbal. GMATprep test will give you the best taste of what verbal on test day will be like.

Come back and let us know how it goes!

for non native English speaker verbal is a big problem.
It would be really good if test takers share their number of mistakes in verbal mock tests

For any non-native speakers, I would recommend checking out these posts on the topic: 1. GMAT Fiction 2. best-gmat-verbal-prep-books-reviews-recommendations-78094.html. This should start you in the right direction! As far as # of incorrect problems, this is not always the most accurate way of figuring out how well you will do in verbal. On a CAT test, it really matters the difficulty of questions you are getting, so this includes the number of correct or incorrect answers in a row, and what types of problems the mistakes and correct answers come on. This is why some may say that the first 10 questions are very important because they can really help get you into the harder bucket of questions.

Good luck!

Thanks GMATLA for the clarification
No of errors gives you a rough idea how well others are doing and in what different way.

Re: All January GMAT Test Takers [#permalink]
Hi,
It is nice to see this thread.

My test date is : January 5th.
Prep materials : OG, OG Verbal review, OG Quant Review , MGMAT SC Guide, Kaplan Premier, Kaplan 800.
Target score : 700 +

Practice Scores so far ;
GMATPrep test 1 : 710
Kaplan practice test 2 (online) : 670
Kaplan practice test 3 (online) : 720
MGMAT CAT 1 : 710
MGMAT CAT 2 : 700
GMATPrep test 2 : 720

Challenges :
1. Verbal is a challenge to me. I am a non native speaker and find SC difficult. In fact I am struggling to keep my verbal score in the 40+ range.
2. In Quant, DS is a challenge. I am trying to hammer it in my mind that I need to consider the possibilities of -ve, zero and fraction (the deadly trio) while evaluating options.

I will post more practice scores, and the methods I followed to prepare for GMAT.
Wish me luck for the Big Day :)

Re: All January GMAT Test Takers [#permalink]
Test Date: Jan.14th
Target Score: 700+
Practice Test Scores and Materials: prep 1: 750, prep 2:760, Knewton: 720 with Q49~50, V is always the priority for me as a nonnative:)
(I seriously doubt whether prep is accurate in estimating my score because some of the questions are quite similar to my practice questions from Knewton, at least in the way of thinking)

Any Last Minute Questions: Maybe the challenge for me lies in how to do my best on test day:)
Also, should I buy MGMAT or any other CAT? What's the difficulty compared to real test? I heard that real test tend to be more tricky

Re: All January GMAT Test Takers [#permalink]
Hello everyone,

I'm actually retaking the GMAT since I bombed it this past Saturday. 510...35Q and 25V. Obviously I studied wrong for about a month and a half. I had an online course and the OG guide but I really didnt use the OG guide as much as I should have and used the course and the practice problems and quizzes from the course and I felt great. I took the two practice exams and had a 510 on one and a 550 the week before the exam and that is when I knew I was in trouble. I was shocked to see my verbal so low actually since English is my native language. What advice would you guys have for me on this second time around..I need to clear 600 and ideally if I can get to the 650 range would be ideal. I have the OG 12 guide and I am for sure giong through everything in that book this time but also I have ordered the Manhattan Verbal foundations book and also the number properties and word translations from Manhattan as well and they arrived today. Any study plan or words of advice to increase my score? I know that I can get higher than this this next time around. What materials should I use to study to give me an accurate assessment this second time around?

Thanks

Tim.

Test Date: 4th Jan
Target Score: 740+
Practice Test Scores: 710(Princeton), 710(KNewton), 700(mgmat1), 760(PowerPrep), 670(mgmat4, was doing a lot of revision when this mishap happened) :)

Material: both OGs, mgmat, Aristotle SC, PowerScore CR, Kaplan800 - going through

Any Last Minute Questions: I need more practice problems; suggest me some good source(s)Any Last Minute Advice: No advice before success :)

Guys, I have been doing a lot of analysis in last 2-3weeks and what I founf is that my test scores are hugely corelated with the time I spent on each sections. so my plan is to practice 2000(500Q, 750SC, 500 CR, 250RC) questions in next 10 days.

Hi All,

I'm retaking my GMAT . (Earlier attempt : 14 July 10: 640 Q44 V33)

GMAT Test date: 12 Jan 2012
Target Score 700+
Matrerials: OG 12th, Kaplan Premier, Kaplan 800,MGMAT for SC, CAT material(Available In India ) For quant conceptual clarity.

Gmat Power Prep: 650
Score 800 :630
Score 800 :660
Gmat Prep 1: 630
Gmat Prep 1 (repeat) 700

My quant seems to be Coming fine with my scores in GMAT preps being 48 and 49. But my verbal scores are unpredictable. I cant even say for sure if these are coming along well or dismal. While in my score 800, i score not less than 38, GMAT prep shoots a 28 and 36.
Frankly I'm very confused as to how to now improve my verbal. Im doing MGMAT sc Guide for the 2nd time to see if i can get my SC's to 100 % accuracy!

Any suggestions are welcomee!!!

Re: All January GMAT Test Takers [#permalink]
Hey, I'll add my name to the list

Test Date: 1/12
Target Score: 700
Practice Test Scores and Materials: OG, Kaplan, and I bought the MGMAT Quant Guides but I don't think I'll have time to work my way through all of them.

MGMAT CAT I: 720 (Q: 43 V: 45)
MGMAT CAT II: 630 (Q: 36 V: 40)
MGMAT CAT III: 710 (Q:42 V:45)

I'm a native English speaker and avid reader, so the verbal seems fairly intuitive, but my quant skills are very rusty. I actually enjoy the logical analysis of the quant problems, but remembering the algebraic rules and properties (much less the shortcuts) is a challenge for me.
