Great experience in Ithaca this weekend! The staff and students were fantastic and very welcoming. We had a little snaffu with the class visit, but the team worked to alleviate the problem for the group of us quickly and reasonably. Campus was gorgeously blanketed in snow all weekend. Great, great trip.
Good luck to everyone else!
If possible, can you share your interview experience?
Sure!
My interview was scheduled for Monday morning. I was interviewed by one interviewed and the interview was scheduled to last 30 minutes. We ended up running over by about 10 minutes, but we were not really rushed to finish.
The interview was blind, so there was a sort of “walk me through your work experience and how you got there” question to start off the interview. As I discussed my career path, several smaller questions also popped up. Discuss a time when you handled a problem; have you ever mitigated an interpersonal disagreement; what has been your greatest accomplishment; what sort of position would be my “dream job.” We talked about my WE for probably 15 minutes and then we kind of switched into the Cornell part of the interview. I was asked which clubs/organizations I would want to participate in and what I would contribute to these. I was also asked to highlight what I felt was the greatest weakness of my application. I was then able to ask my interviewer some questions.
Overall it felt pretty interviewy, which came as some sort of a surprised based off of others’ experiences here, but based off of conversations with others who had interviewed with this person previously that day, they reflected my concerns. I felt very welcomed by the whole team and didn’t feel out of place or a burden at all while on campus and genuinely felt that everyone from the admissions team down to the admissions ambassadors honestly wanted to see you on campus next year.
I don’t know how much this will help everyone, but I hope it brings some resource to those who have interviews down the line. Again, good luck!
Also, if you’re looking for a hotel, stay at the Best Western University Inn. Staff was very helpful and they have a free shuttle to and from campus/collegetown/the commons. It’s maybe 2 minutes drive from campus.
