I had been in Esade last week, where I had lunch with 3 current students. One from Portugal who worked in World Bank from 5 years, another from Germany who worked in Beijing (finance sector) for 4 years (similar profile as mine) and another from Barcelona who worked in LA for 4 years and is currently developing his business plan to launch his own company. All of them where really inspiring to me.
First of all I noticed the camaraderie among them and the collaborative spirit of the school, which creates the necessary environment to promote students interaction and mutual learn...I immediately felt confident with them and, more important,, I felt that I wanted them as a future classmates.
I asked about the carrier services help at the time to look for and internship opportunity. 2 of them got the internship thought carier services, while the other was just developing its business plan.
We also talked about the new campus Creapolis located at Sant Cugat. Although it is 25 minutes metro ride from City center seems that the facilities are much better than the current ones, while it shares the building with some start up companies, situation that will put up together MBa students with cutting edge innovative companies, creating interaction an mutual learn. Esade has also created The E'Garage, a center for the development of ideas and entrepreneurial projects, a place where the students of the MAster in entrepreneurship, MBA students and professor will work together.
I was considering ESADE as a good option for me, but after last week's visit to the campus, interaction with current students, and admissions department and carrier services team Esade has become my first option (need to say that I have visited several schools, not only Esade). I believe that in Esade I will not only grow professionally, but also personally, and thanks to its focus in entrepreneurship and its students profiles, I will have the right framework to present and improve my business plan (I am planning to set up a consulting company for social entrepreneurs in Asia and investors in Europe).
Wish you the best in your MBA search!!
Hi Saurajm,
That was very helpful. Did you check career opportunities for NON European candidates post ESADE? I did some research and found the following
- I talked to a current student at ESADE and he said that it is next to impossible to find a job in SPAIN or other european countries becuase you need to know the language. If you are betting on working in UK then you are probably not aware that UK has implemented new rule in Dec 2011 which has made it impossible to work in UK for people who graduated from universities outside UK. Earlier if your school was in top 20 list of Europe then you get 12 months of working visa and permission to look for a job. The new rule says that even for students who graduated from UK universties like Oxford, London Buisness school will have only 4 months to look for job and an employer who would file for work visa. I verified this news from Wall street journal and several other news source.
- I called up one for seniors from school days who is a pass out from IESE MBA 2008 batch. He said that he would trade places with me in US anytime. He confirmed that working in Europe for Non european is very difficult. Most of the people end up taking jobs in Dubai(which is hiring MBAs from europe like crazy) or singapore.
- I called up two more friends from my engineering days in India who are working in Switzerland. One of them is working in German speaking part of the country and other is working in french speaking part of Switzerland. They both confirmed that language barrier will stop you from getting an offer unless you are exceptional. They gave their example that although they both work in Switzerland but they cannot switch places because one works in french speaking county and other is in german speaking county.
- I called up another frined of mine from Engineering days and he is studying MBA in SDA Bocconi Italy in the current batch. I wanted to make sure that this was not the case in other part of Europe. He confirmed that for Non Europeans you will end up in Dubai, Singapore or India or any other English peaking part of the world. He confirmed that so far only guy who was from India found a job in Italy.
The Esade site mentions that something 80% found job outside Europe so if anyone who is not from European country, please acknowledge the fact that you "might" have to end up going to your home country. If your plans are that you will get a job after graduating from ESADE / IESE / IE etc. in EUROPE, then please be aware of the huge risk. If you are open to working in Dubai/ Brazil/Singapore then you are good to go.
