I truly found this to be one of the most motivating debriefs on the forum that i've read ( 10+ today). I am going to use your advice and focus a ton on the MGMAT resources and as many official questions as I can get. I just made a topic about my experience and had some questions and you did more than enough to answer them!

I could explain everything about combinations/permutations required for the GMAT in maybe 5 sentences and 2 or 3 sample question types.

Great post.

One question to the sentence above. It would be really helpful for other members if you could write down your findings about which question types you think are more relevant. Maybe not too detailed because this would clearly take a lot of your time. But at least by touching the surface of important SC, DS, PS,... questions.

Furthermore how would to explain combinations/permutations in such a short paragraph (5 sentences) and which are the 2/3 sample question types. This would be so valueable!

If you really want to improve reading comprehension for the GMAT, I would advocate reading the newspaper, or magazines such as Newsweek, Businessweek, etc. I would also recommend reading research journals, at least the executive summary and conclusion. When reading, don't just read news or articles that you are interested in. Also read those that you have no interest in, since your reading comprehension is obviously better when you have an interest in the topic.

I can absolutely support that, and compiled a list of magazines that I use now to train my RC & CR skills

I just finished taking the exam for the 2nd time. Proud to report that I scored a 750 (49Q, 44V). It was not an easy journey. On my first diagnostic, which was taken after my first month of study, I had scored a 550 using the GMATPrep software. I thought that I would at least score in the 600s, and thinking this was surely a mistake, I retook it again for a similar score. I knew I was in no shape for the exam and studied HARDCORE for a good 6 months before taking the exam last month to get a 690 (47Q, 38V). I was disappointed since I was aiming for 700+ (but probably in the low 700s). I knew that this should be a realistic goal because in practice tests my verbal score would usually be around 41, whereas on the actual exam I got a 38. My goal for the 2nd retake was to just hit 700, since I was sooo close the first time. ............. [/color]

Let me begin by congratulating you on the great score and the massive move up from 550 to 750. However, my main reason for posting is that your post has got to be one of the most inspiring posts I have read about gmat preparation here on gmatclub or anywhere else for that matter. I was sort of meandering around with my prep efforts before I came across your story. Reading your tips and strategy has been of immense help to me. I got a 670 today with Q45 V37 (its my first attempt), which I know isn't exactly a platinum level score. But I moved from a 550 with a miserable Q32 in my first gmat-prep to that score in about 2 months. The advice on quant prep was the clincher for me as that has always been my weak area. I believe the idea of hammering away at the basics and understanding the patterns just can't be appreciated enough. Also, all the other folks on here, the seniors in particular, have been a source of some wonderful information. Thanks for the valuable words and here's hoping that you would be well on your way getting into your desired program by now risys82.

Amazing debrief. I cannot imagine 10 pages of replies on a debrief. That just goes to say the value of your debrief. Since I am just starting off my prep, I thought I'd start with reading through some of the experiences and what better to start with the best debrief discussions....For me the main takeaway is that OG is theeeee source and the fact that we do not necessarily need to answer all questions correctly. This one is especially important for me since I make every question an ego issue. :(

I hope I am able to contribute even 10% of this debrief to the community :)
