Hi Arjun,

We think that you are unnecessarily worrying about your GPA. While your GPA is low but its close to 7 and with a decent GMAT it should not be a deterrent.

Mentioning reasons/explanations for an average GPA will unnecessarily shift focus to your acads. Instead focus on presenting your story well and talking about your achievements. B schools get a lot of applicants from India with good GPA's but few have good extra currics.

A low CGPA can be difficult to overcome, but a high GMAT score will def help. IMO, however, much of this depends on where you want to apply. there are certain top schools where a low GPA is insurmountable (i.e., Stanford) and others where a low GPA mixed in with a lot of really great XCs and leadership examples can work (i.e., Kellogg). Also, MBA programs such as Cornell and Yale are both Ivy's, but - i would argue - a click below MIT, Chicago and a couple of other non-Ivy's on competitiveness and prestige. So, while the Ivy league idea is important, it shouldn't be the only factor (unless you live/work in an area where the only brands employers recognize are the ones from Ivy schools).

do the upfront research on school selection. i think that will make a big difference as it relates to how you're thinking about this process.

hope that's helpful
