General tips on how to prepare financially
Begin to search for outside scholarships early. Private scholarships may be based on various selection criteria: academic achievement, religious affiliation, ethnicity, memberships, civic activities, hobbies, or special talents. Start by contacting your employee benefits office, church, civic group(s), or any other organization you think may have scholarship opportunities. Search the web for free (https://www.fastweb.com).
Begin to reduce your discretionary expenses. Dine out fewer times during the week, bring your lunch to work, and limit impulse purchases.
Start to save from each paycheck. Open a new school expense savings account and have money directly deposited from your paycheck.
You will want to have savings to cover non-educational expenses such as moving costs, apartment deposits, start-up costs, club dues, gym memberships, interview expenses, and leisure travel expenses.
Eliminate any credit card balances you currently carry and only use your credit cards for emergencies.
It is much easier to live like a student while you're a student than to live on a student budget after completing your MBA.
Develop a personal budget. You may find it helpful to use software such as Quicken or MS Money.
Maintain good credit – a large portion of federal and private student loans require a credit check. It is very important to have a good credit record. Request your credit report today.
