Hi folks,

Well, I am planning to apply for the MiM programmes Sept 2017 intake, so which gives me approximately 18 months from now for me to complete my application. I want to know how good is my profile as of now and hence I request you to evaluate my profile and provide suggestions on the areas of development.

CGPA: 6.8/10 ... as a number this looks like a low cgpa.. But then in my university this is a first class CGPA. ( non -IIT top 20 engineering schools in India) Suggestion needed on this part.

GMAT- determined to get 700+ ... have been scoring 650+ in mock tests and I am planing to take my GMAT in JAN 2017. So this gives me 5 more months to prepare

Extra Curriculars

As of now Two Internships.. One as a client relations management intern in one of the top 4 insurance firms in India and the other one is a marketing Internship from one of the top three Tractor manufacturing firms in India. One more thing is some people say that it is good to have as many internships as possible during undergrads. But Some other people say that too many internships is looked down upon and a maximum of two internships is to be maintained. Suggestion needed on this part.

Secretary of The Wall Street Club (finance) club in my college.

Working on a online trading based paper along with a friend of mine which should be ready in another couple of months.

Apart from these

I have attended 3 Model united Nations conferences representing the delegations of various countries.
Quizzer during my school time and have won a lot of quiz competitions.
Business director of a web startup which failed after one year of decent reach though no profits were made.
Active member of the Entrepreneurship Development Club of my college
Have organised a lot of events which includes a Technical workshop which was attended by over 1000 Engineering students from all over the country.

Hereby I request you to kindly evaluate my profile assuming that I score a 700 in my GMAT and a overall cgpa of 7.2/10 by the time I start applying.

My target schools in the order of preference

1. LBS
2.Michigan Ross MiM - first intake Sept 2014.
3. Duke Fuqua - MMS FOB
4. ESCP
5. HEC
6. ESSEC
7. Rotterdam School of Management
8. Hult Business School

Thanks in Advance.

To add that this website is helping a lot of students these days. The best educational forums I have ever seen. Keep going.

Scores from your mock tests will give you an idea of what range of schools you should target. Distribute the 5 from ambitious, target and safe schools in this range). If an evaluation helps you, pm me your detailed resume, with your GMAT score, and any preference for geography/country/ schools/ ranks or so on for a free profile evaluation.

Hi Srishti,
While LBS and LSE value diversity in courses and otherwise, and may look at your Sports profile, your UG from the no-name schools will certainly cause problems. NUS however, wants deeper academic/ professional proof.

That said, it is difficult to understand your profile from your brief description. Please pm your resume and connect for a better evaluation, free.

Hello Gmatclub community,

New here. Considering doing an MBA in fall of 2020 and looking for some guidance on realistic targets. Here is my profile:

- 28 years old, Indian-American (parents from India)
- 700 GMAT
- Went to IU Kelley (Honors) for UG, graduated Magna Cum Laude
- Worked at ATK for 4 years until Manager
- Left a few years back to start a real estate investment firm, raised about $4m from investors. Doing well. About 20-25% ROI.
- Started a construction / contracting company as well, generated $500k in revenues first year.
- Both doing well, but looking to ideally break more into 'hard' finance in same sectors, a la REPE or something similar.
- Essays and LOR's will probably be average
- VP of non-for-profit, solid extracurriculars

So, given my profile, what schools do you think are realistic? Looking for US only. Thanks!

Hi folks !

I have a question.

I got an admit from ISB and the program begins in April but I am waiting for results from Tepper and Kellogg.

Since I wanted to spend some time with the family , I resigned in Februray to stay with family for around 1.5 month.

At the same time , if I get a positive result from either tepper or Kellogg , I might be jobless for next four months. Will this affect my application or post MBA prospects ?

Hi vj1994,

Congratulations on your admit from ISB!

To answer your query for Kellogg and Tepper, if you get an admit (hope you get!) from any or both, you have the luxury of time! You can do some pre-MBA internships (if your short-term goals involve a career switch, you can explore the fields you want to pre-MBA) or you can get involved in some community service (having more impact in the profile can be the cherry on the cake for your resume during recruitment season).

These are my two cents. Best of luck! ;)

Cheers!

Hi @vj1994, I think that if you do end up getting accepted at Kellogg or Tepper the job lapse of 4 months is ok. If you can, try to do something pre MBA program to build a new skill or help you get closer to your post MBA career goal through a project or just basic research-- but it is not such a long time that I don't think it will hurt you-- and since you can't change it now I would not worry about it. You will have plenty of time in the MBA programs that start in the fall to hit the ground running on recruiting. Best wishes to you that you get the good news you seek.

Post MBA goals -:

I want to move into my startup full-time and leaverage the experience and network that i built over the course of my MBA to expand my business globally while keeping technology and customer success at the forefront.

Questions I have -:

1. Is my profile good enough for the colleges i'm targetting ?
It will be of immense help to me if you can categorize the schools above as
1) Not possible, forget about it!
2) Good Chance
3) Not at all easy but can be given a shot

2. I'm targetting round 2, hence i want to know whether the colleges usually have rolling admissions for R2 in which case i'll have to hurry up and apply , or can i apply till the deadline is there?

3. Is my GMAT score good enough, or should i retake it? I somehow tanked my IR (Score - 2) , is that going to be a detterant in my applications?

4. Is my profile good enough to get decent scholarships?

5. Since currently i just have 3 years of work experience and by the time i join MBA it'll be 4 yrs, should i wait for another year and then apply, or this is a good time to apply?

6. What more I can do to strenghten my profile so that my chances of making to top 5 US B-Schools increase?

Thanks and Regards
