Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota have begun to enforce statewide bans prohibiting landfills to accept leaves, brush, and grass clippings.

A. prohibiting landfills to accept leaves, brush, and grass clippings.
B. prohibiting that landfills accept leaves, brush, and grass fillings.
C. prohibiting landfills from accpeting leaves, brush, and grass clippings
D. that leaves, brush, and grass fillings cannot be accepted in landfills
E. hat landfills cannot accpept leaves, brush, and grass clippings


I shortlisted two. Now am confused with the OA.

Any explanations?

correct idiom should be prohibiting X from doing
so (C)

No doubt... it is C. Prohibit from + [gerund]
Ex: You are prohibited from drinking alcohol while taking the GMAT.

( Although, I think I perform much better if they did allow me to drink alcohol during the test :-) )

I'll go with C. 'from accepting' is the best form between A,B and C. D and E are plain awkward.

This is a OG question and it is simple. You prohibit X from doing Y.

A. prohibiting landfills to accept leaves, brush, and grass clippings.
Wrong. 'prohibiting X to do Y' is not idiomatic.

B. prohibiting that landfills accept leaves, brush, and grass fillings.
Wrong. Not idiomatic.

C. prohibiting landfills from accpeting leaves, brush, and grass clippings
Right. prohibiting X(landfills) from doing Y(accepting x,y and z) form.

D. that leaves, brush, and grass fillings cannot be accepted in landfills

E. that landfills cannot accpept leaves, brush, and grass clippings
