i have listened a dialogue and have read a passage on the same topic. My task was to combinate opinions from both reading and listening.) I was given only 20 minutes to write the following :
In this set of materials, the reading passage describes how is the word "altruism" is connected with the living habitats of mammals called meerkats. They give their lifes to prevent the death of their group members, showing a great compassion towards the ones they love. However, the listening conteds, that people and meerkats are very selfish by nature and care therefore more about themselves than anyone else.
Firstly, reading contents states that human welfare has almost no limits. Nowadays, there are a lot of examples when strangers give poor and unsocial people food, clothes and money. Moreover, there are some peoples who even donates some parts of their body to friends, relatives and completely unknown people who are at the risk of death. This point is actually contradicted by the lecturer words. The teacher states, that people nowadays have a tendency to be selfish and pay no attention to their closest peoples' problems and sufferings.
The another point that the lecturer uses to cast doubt on the listening is the meerkats' eating habits. The teacher claims, that the group members eat before the group guard. This means, that the guards has much more advantageous position. It could be supported by the fact, that in case of meerkats being offended by a victim, the guard could escape to the forest leaving his group alone. This point differs from the listening position. It is said in the listening contents, that the guards mission is the most altruistic, because he has to keep secure while the others are enjoying their meals. Furthermore he can be caught by the victim, because being alone is much more challenging to defend than keeping in a group.
In conclusion, the points made in the reading contrast with the listening with the fact, that meerkats are very selfish mammals and the human cares only about himself, not even remembering about his family.
What do you think - how much points I could earn for this integrated task ?
