Hi;
Thanks very much for taking time to read my post.I would like you to suggest me in what schools I should apply. I am planning to take the GMAT by the end of October. Some target schools?
I have a bachelor and a master in economics from an African country and I worked for a government agency over there as a research assistant for 5 years. My job was basically to do market research and help investors identify sectors where they could invest; to assist the government in financing private investments through public loans in order to improve the private sector. At the same time I was teaching statistics and econometrics in a business school.
I had to flee the Country because of my political activities. Hence since 2010, I haven't really worked (except some small jobs, basically as a nurse aid as I was struggling for my asylum status in the US) and I have been doing a master of mathematics during that time (graduating next December) just because facing the adversity, I wanted to try an intellectual challenge.
My goal is to get into consulting or finance after the MBA. In fact I am still politically very active in my country and I do believe that a top MBA and an experience in either consulting or finance in the US would give me a lot of skills needed in Africa as I am planning to go back when political environment changes.
My actual GPA is 3.44/4 (Master of mathematics)
Master of economics (no GPA system but say around 3.5/4)
Bachelor of economics (no GPA system but say around 3.5/4)
GRE (V:600, 75%; Q: 800, 96%; A:5, 90%), planning to take the GMAT and confident will do well ( >720)
Activities and leadership
- created and led for 2 years the association of Gabonese students in Cameroon
- led student demonstrations against the regime and was arrested many times
- created an after school program to help students prepare for different national examinations and tests (free for poor students)
- active member of the main opposition party of my country (we use to meet here in New-York)
- secretary of the association of my community in New York (we have meetings once a month)
- speak and write english, french, spanish and an african language.
Thank you very much for your time and sorry for being so long.
