A. because doing it allows them to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions
B. because doing that allows them to make independent, courageous, but even unpopular business decisions
C. because doing so allows them to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions
D. because doing so allow him to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions
E. because doing these allows them to make independent, courageous, as well as unpopular business decisions

...because doing so is correct expression, leaving two answers C and D. In addition, D uses pronoun him, which is incorrect.
So the answer is C.

Doing so is the correct idiom

and u need them to modify the plural nouns here

Re: It's very important for CEOs, board members, and other nonfinancial ex [#permalink]
The subject is compound and hence you need a plural pronoun 'them'.
Pronouns such as ‘it’, ‘that’ and ‘these’ do not have a specific antecedent to fall back on. Internalize is a verb and a pronoun cannot refer to it. That is the reason that the adverb ‘so’ which modifies the verb of ‘internalize’ is preferable over ‘it’
Choice C is the correct one. Hence, C is the answer.

A. because doing it allows them to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions.

B. because doing that allows them to make independent, courageous, but even unpopular business decisions

C. because doing so allows them to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions- Needs to singular because we are referring to a group.

D. because doing so allow him to make independent, courageous, and even unpopular business decisions

E. because doing these allows them to make independent, courageous, as well as unpopular business decisions
